The plot was really good. The female lead wasn't annoying as many in this genre are, but I just couldn't get into the male lead. A little pain with pleasure is exciting, but spanking someone until they sob, just because you had a bad day at work is cowardly and pathetic. Totally ruined the book for me.Product details

I really enjoyed this book!
Dark romance is a not-so guilty pleasure of mine, especially when it contains character growth as it does in this novel. Obviously if you enjoy hot sex scenes, then this will be the book for you!
I liked that we saw the book from the heroine's perspective, and we gradually learn more information/begin to see the hero/her mate in a different light based on the more that she learns. I also thought her scenes came off as very real--as a typical 18 year old woman who was on her first trip out of planet, and had plans for her life, etc.
I also really liked how growl-y and stern, etc the hero was.........and then slowly softened/opened up while maintaining his dominance, etc. In terms of a dark romance that is supposed to have a happy ending, I think this is an important character development to have. I don't like the ones I've read where the hero/master treats the heroine completely like crap the whole time, never opens up or offers anything beyond sex, but by the end they're "in love".
One slight criticism is that I think there were a few extraneous details/slight subplots that I think were great additions to the story, in terms of character development, but plot wise--I thought they would be used in a different/extended manner.
The book was ok. I don't particularly care for the author's style of writing, but the story line is good. I bought book one an two at the same time so will read the second one, but I doubt I will buy any others only because as I mentioned I don't care for the writing style.
I'm giving it 2 stars because it was what it said it was. But the realism wasn't there. I have to say for an abusive race Kenan wasn't that horrible (compared to most of his race). I'm not saying he didn't do horrible things but from what I read of it, that race is horrible. The reason I didn't feel the realism was if you were raped or forced for sex in any way, you would not behave the way Laylah did. And she was raped twice in that book by Kenan. Anyways reading this book makes me think that the author has never been raped (not saying she should), but anyone being forced wouldn't want to be hugged or comforted by the person who just beat them or raped them. And yes Kenan has punished her. He hasn't ever punched her or like that he has taken his belt to her, slapped her, took a crop to her. Some people think, ok. But Laylah didn't enjoy it.
At least he realized it was wrong what he was doing by the end of the book, but dude really up until the very last chapter?? wow and that part seemed kind of rushed.
It had great writing, a sexy cruel alien and a sweet girl who brings her alien wisdom and redemption! Also scorching sex with an HEA!
It's a good read if you like this kind story.
This book was almost too intense for me in the first few chapters but I ended up loving the book. I've gone back and re-read this one a couple of times.
I enjoyed reading this book 📚, it has a great storyline. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
