Utilitarianism John Stuart Mill 9781475146233 Books Reviews
This is one of those philosophy classics by John Stuart Mill on the must read list. It's a very dry read, plus the philosophy is quite bazaar. For some reason John Stuart Mill is suggested as a classic philosopher championing civil rights and individual liberty. However, his philosophy is exactly the opposite. He believes that the perfect society is one which achieves the maximum happiness for the maximum amount of people. But the kicker is that he believes the elite philosophers are the ones who are to define what happiness is. He attempts to explain why and how humans have been and can be good and civil, while completely ignoring the role of God and faith. He comes across as an unlikable elitist snob.
